Into the Hands of Fate Ref: Gic-G236 Early on 13th April 1917, pilots and observers from six RE8s of 59 Squadron prepare to take off from La Bellavue airfield on a reconnaissance flight over the German lines - none would return. Intercepted by Manfred von Richtofen's Jasta 11, all six would be shot down, claiming the lives of ten of the twelve RFC aircrew.A3225, in the foreground, was crewed by Arthur Tanfield and Andrew Omerod; A3190, behind, crewed by James Maitland Stuart and Maurice Herbert-Wood, would fall to the guns of the 'Red Baron' himself.Graham Turner's evocative painting pays tribute to the sacrifice made by countless aircrew as they undertook their vital reconnaissance role despite such huge losses.CLICK HERE for a close up detail image.Giclée Print published from an oil painting by Graham Turner. Each print individually printed to order on very high quality heavyweight paper, and then signed on the border by the artist.click on image to enlargeAvailable in three alternative sizes, and on canvas - select size required below
